Last year, I decided to change my career path from nursing to teaching. I have always loved children and I work at a school, so I feel like I have some experience I can bring with me into the profession. However, I am hoping to learn a lot from this class about how I can use technology to the best of my ability in my future classroom. I want to become familiar with the different programs I can use to make my students' learning experience as best as I can.
As I mentioned, my current job is in the after school program at a local school. I am with a "class" of students from third grade each day that I work, and we are expected to create activities for them after they play and work on their homework. I have been able to use programs like Pinterest to find amazing ideas for crafts, games, and other activities that the students absolutely loved. In the classroom, we use Smart boards and computers for various activities. Using these things made me want to learn all that I can about educational technology so I can be familiar with it when it is time for me to teach real lessons one day.
Recently, I have been trying to educate myself on the world of teaching, and trying to learn all that I can about the field since I am not an education major. I am taking classes for the education minor and I try to learn all that I can from those classes, as well as books and other resources in my own time. A new skill I am learning is golf. My friends and I wanted to take a fun recreational class our senior year and we are having a great time learning how to play golf. Learning resources that I regularly use are my laptop and programs like Quizlet, Canva, Microsoft office, Youtube, and Pinterest, as well as various teacher accounts on social media. I have found many teachers on social media that I get great ideas and advice from and I hope to implement it into my future classroom.
I applaud you for realizing that teaching was a better fit for you, and agree that technology can definitely help in the classroom to make it fun and engaging for the students. I also love using Pinterest to get ideas for classroom activities. I like the use of the several online resources in your personal learning network.
